Large Print Black and White

Even though this project was supposed to be b&w, I played with this picture and thought that it looked better with a little bit of color. I actually changed the color of the sky, and then left the green leaves as they were originally. I also chose this picture because I love the beauty of the Black Hills and especially the Aspen trees. This picture was powerful as b&w, but I thought it looked a little better in half color so I bent the rules :) -Kelsey

Interaction with the Print Surface

My original picture was for "wrapped" but I decided to "jazz" it up a bit. I initially cut out the window and used my desk lamp as the major light source. Then I took a plastic bag apart and glued strips to the image to make the texture of the "wrapping" come to life. Although this looks better as a 3d object rather than in the picture, I feel that it is creative and beautiful, and it adds attitude to a picture that was originally dull. -Kelsey :)

contemp photo

My friend from Ireland is in love with Lady GaGa. one of her photos inspired this photo. I love the very exposed and defined feel of the photo. It's not a normal looking photo, it looks as if she is holding up the cord to hang herself, like she is a slave to whatever you want. It's kinda disturbing.

We were out takeing engagement photos and i knew i wanted a landscape, and love that this feels as if it goes on and on. I think landscapes are beautiful in b&w. I took the camera from my boss who was taking out photos and snaped this and a few more shots closer in and farther away.

Large Print Black and White

This is my Large Print in black and white. I took the Photo in Des Moines in the new sculpture garden downtown. I Like the composition of the subjects and the contrast of the blacks and whites.

Black and White (Large Format Print)

My experience: This is a fun project, I got to use something simple but it turned out. The teddy bear is a brown teddy bear, sitting on a box cover by a silver silk fabric. With a rose in his arm. Then in light room I up the blacks and up the contrast. This was a fun project I think I took about 20 different photographs and this one turned out the best.

Large Format Black & White

This is my large format black and white photo I took. I tried to show her ring shining in the sun but it ended up clouding up and raining right before we took this. But I wanted to show the color of the flowers because I felt that they were to plain for it to be just black and white...

Kyle - Large Format Print

While walking around Stone State Park I noticed a lot of trails and paths. I took about 8 or so pictures of the different paths that led throughout the park. I also took about 20-40 pictures of animals, including at least 10 of a squirrel that seemed to be posing for me. I liked this image because of the motion that the image created.

Old News

This is my large format black and white print. I have done two projects now that are about newspapers. I am a mass comm photo double major so I am interested in writing for papers and becoming a journalist. I loved this shot because I was in a small town right outside my town and was walking around on a nice fall day taking pictures of the quaint town. I was walking by a building that was labeled Newsroom. A small old women who had to be in her late 70's maybe early 80's walking into the building. She was one out of the only two writers that worked for the paper. I loved the small town feel of all the old papers laying in one corner. I liked the composition of the shot. I shot it in color but preferred the picture in black and white. I also brought out the blacks in lightroom and added a vignette. This print turned out very well when it was blown up I think it has more impact than what it would as an 8X12. I had many good shots from this small town shoot and it was hard deciding which picture I thought was stronger. I felt with my news background I would rather hang this picture on my wall.
